Vancouver, B.C. – The 88th annual Vancouver International Auto Show opens to the public this Saturday, March 29 and runs through Sunday, April 6 at BC Place Stadium in downtown Vancouver. More than 450 new makes and models will be on display in the 250,000 square feet stadium, and more than 120,000 people are expected to attend.
Six new vehicles will be on display for the first time in Canada: the 2009 Audi A4 Avant, 2008 BMW M3 Cabriolet, 2009 Acura TSX, 2009 Honda Fit, 2009 Nissan Maxima and 2009 Infiniti FX.
Western Canada premieres will include the 2009 Audi A4 Sedan, 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, 2008 Mercedes-Benz C230 and C230 4MATIC, 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK350 Edition 10, 2008 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Edition 10, and 2008 smart fortwo coupe and cabriolet; Nissan GT-R, 2009 Subaru Forester, 2009 Subaru Legacy and Outback PZEV, 2008 Volvo V70, and 2008 Volvo XC70.
B.C. debuts will be the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, 2009 Dodge Journey, 2009 Ford Flex, 2009 Ford F-150, 2009 Lincoln MKS, 2009 Ford Mustang Bullitt, 2009 Chevrolet Aveo5, 2009 Pontiac Vibe, 2009 Pontiac Wave5, 2009 Pontiac G8, 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, 2008 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid, 2008 Saab Turbo X, 2009 VW Tiguan, 2009 VW Jetta TDI, 2009 VW Passat CC, and 2009 VW Routan minivan.
As well, concept/prototype vehicles on display will include the Ford Airstream Concept, Lincoln MKR Concept, Ford Interceptor Concept, Chevrolet Volt Concept, and Toyota Hybrid X Concept.
The show will also include a new display of supercars from Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Lotus, Aston Martin, and Bentley; and a new “Best of the Best” display – one car from each of the top summer collector car shows, a 1936 Lagonda LG 45 representing Gastown’s Steamworks Concours d’ Elegance Classic Car show, a very rare 1906 Zust representing the Langley Good Times Cruise-in, and a 1936 Ford Club Cab representing the annual Downtown Port Coquitlam Car show. Visitors will have an opportunity to vote for their favourite and the car with the most votes will be named the “Best of the Best” on the last day of the Show.
There will also be a “Classic Drive-Up”, (April 6 only), a “tip of the hat” to the American muscle car with a salute to the venerable Ford Mustang on Terry Fox Plaza on the last Sunday of the show.
Visitors to the show have a chance to win a Grand Prize: a 2009 Toyota Corolla specially prepared by Toyota Canada valued at over $35,000.
