FRANKFURT, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Ron Gettelfinger, president of the U.S. union United Auto Workers (UAW), has stepped step down from DaimlerChrysler's (DAIGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) supervisory board effective on Sept. 1, the carmaker said on Monday.
The move follows DaimlerChrysler's sale of a majority stake in U.S. arm Chrysler Group to Cerberus Capital Management [CBS.UL] and Gettelfinger's consultations with other labour representatives on the board, a statement said.
Germany's IG Metall union, which had traditionally given the UAW one of its seats on the DaimlerChrysler board, has proposed that Valter Sanches be appointed by a court to succeed Gettelfinger, it added.
Sanches, a Brazilian, was a member of DaimlerChrysler's world employee council until May 2007.
