May 21, 2007 - 1:00 amDETROIT -- Chrysler has been using its iconic pentastar logo to rally dealers and employees for the impending sale to Cerberus Capital Management LP. But Chrysler says it's too soon to say whether it will again be the official logo.
The pentastar, introduced in 1962, appeared extensively on Chrysler vehicles when Lee Iacocca was CEO. Many Chrysler parts continue to be stamped with the logo. A huge pentastar-shaped window dominates the executive suite of the Chrysler group headquarters in suburban Detroit.
Juergen Schrempp, the German architect of the DaimlerChrysler merger, discouraged use of the pentastar because he thought it was too similar to the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star.
