[Punishment of Robby Gordon]

NASCAR's punishment of Robby Gordon and team seems a bit harsh, given the circumstances. Dodge provided him with a nose that hadn't been approved. He just switched to Dodge. We understand why he couldn't tell the difference. No one could tell a difference without measuring instruments.

Dodge called its generic car an Avenger last year. This year it's a Charger. Same car. Oh, wait. Dodge submitted a "Charger" nose for approval. NASCAR hasn't approved it yet. Given that logic, doesn't that make the Dodge an Avenger still?

Fines are being awarded to the NASCAR Foundation this year. Does that make Robby Gordon's $100,000 fine a charitable donation?

Roger Penske's Daytona 500 victory was bigger than Ryan Newman's. Dating back to the early 1970s, the most distinguished owner in the history of American motorsports had never won the 500.

The break-up of open-wheel racing played a significant role in NASCAR's increase in popularity. Now that the IRL and ChampCar have gotten back together, will that coincide with the IndyCars regaining some popularity?

Originally, Auto Club Speedway (i.e., California) scheduled Craftsman Truck and Nationwide series races on the same day, Saturday. When rain washed out the Nationwide race, officials moved it to Sunday, meaning that it was rescheduled for after the Sprint Cup race.

Jacques Villeneuve's great NASCAR experiment may be over practically before it started. The one-time World Driving Champion failed to make the Daytona 500 starting field and then was replaced by Mike Skinner. Apparently Villeneuve couldn't close the deal on a sponsor.

BLOG: Nascar 09 What it Needs And What it Doesn't

Agreed...race on Sunday, drive on Monday [Mike]

Nascar 08 was not that great and I have been playing Nascar since the Playstation versions. Nascar 09 needs alcohol sponsors. Really just make the rating T for Teen or E10 If you have too. I hate driving the #2 Kurt Busch car its the #2 Miller Lite car driven by Kurt Busch. Nascar 09 needs many many more paint scheems for all of the cars. That and no fake cars make all the drivers you can the whole fleet. No one wants to race using Jimbo Bobs #189 car. Make all of the car models for the COT and Chraftsman Truck’s. Everyone knows the COT comes in the Chevrolet Impala SS, Dodge Avenger, Ford Fusion, and Toyota Camry. For the trucks-Dodge Ram, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-Series, and Toyota Tundra. EA should stop being lazy and make something other than one crappy generic model. The team control’s should come back they were fun. And what ever else needed. Something good I’ve heard Carl Edwards is coming back.

Dodges dominate Daytona

User Avatar

by Steve Wronkowicz

I am co-host of the syndicated radio show: ON PIT ROW. Charlie likes too call me an "idiot". I'm not an "idiot"; I just prefer not to let the facts get in the way of my opinions.

After lackluster efforts testing, qualifying and practicing; where did all the Dodges come from?

Untitled PostThat is THE BUZZ this week ON PIT ROW. For most of Speed Weeks at Daytona everyone was focusing on the Chevy super teams. Hendrick Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing and DEI. Then testing successes by the Toyota teams shifted the focus to their new found prowess and much debate ensued.

Not much ink or bandwidth was wasted on the Ford and Dodge teams, other than the Robby Gordon story. So little credit was given to the Dodge teams that the biggest Dodge story was Kurt Busch’s run in with Tony Stewart’s fist.

When all was said and done and the checkers flew on the 50th Daytona 500, the Dodge Boys had captured the majority of top ten spots. Along with Ryan Newman’s win and Kurt’s second, Reed Sorenson, Elliott Sadler, Kasey Kahne and Robby all finished in the top eight, Only the Toyotas of Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch along with Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Chevy and Greg Biffle’s Ford made the top ten.

It is no wonder that Chrysler Corporation inked the Ganassi and Penske to new multi-year contracts to stay with Mopar.

Two NASCAR Nextel Cup stars will drive in the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT race at Lowe's Motor Speedway this month. Woodhouse Performance have announced that Evernham Motorsports driver Kasey Kahne will drive the No. 13 Dodge Viper in Charlotte. This follows the announcement in March that defending NEXTEL Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson will drive a Cadillac CTS-V at the same event.
