MONTREAL - The situation with the automotive industry has become so dire, at least one Quebec dealer is resorting to a pizzeria-like promotion strategy in an attempt to clear out this year’s stock of expensive four-by-four models - two vehicles for the price of one.

Girard Automobile Inc., a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealership in Repentigny, for the second time in a month is offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal: purchase a 2008 Dodge Ram, Dodge Durango, Chrysler Aspen or Jeep Commander until Friday and receive a 2009 Dodge Caliber valued at $17,500 at no cost.

Sales manager Michel Leduc concedes there’s no money to be made with the promotion; it’s simply meant to cut losses next year.
