Belvidere-Made Vehicles are a Good Bang for your Buck

Video

Many of us have been conscious of gas prices. Some even trading in our car for one with better gas mileage.

If you're in the market for a new vehicle and want to save money in the long run, the three made at Belvidere's Chrysler plant are a good place to start. A new list from cars.com shows which cars get the best bank for you buck. The Jeep Patriot was the best SUV. The Jeep Compass was number 2. The Dodge Caliber was #2 for mid-sized cars, second to the Hyundai Elantra, but it beat the Toyota Prius.

Alex Gary from the Rockford Register Star tells us how cars.com figures which vehicles are best based on price and gas mileage. He says they take base sticker price and add it to lifetime fuel cost. They figure you drive 15,000 miles a year for 8 years with 55% on city streets and 45% on highway and multiple that by an average cost of regular unleaded at $3.13 a gallon.
