Daimler is reaching back to the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300SL from the 1950s and '60s for design cues--and gullwing doors--for a flagship sports car due in 2010.

Codenamed W197, the AMG-developed model will feature a tube frame and parts from the next-generation SL. Power is expected from a 620-hp V8. Pricing likely will approach $250,000, with 3000 to 5000 cars available per year, built at the Mercedes plant in Sindelfingen, Germany.

So far, only Viper-look-alike mules have been photographed, but this artist's rendering closely captures the likely styling of the final product.
