August 2007

Chrysler's retro-styled PT Cruiser will go out of production when its current model ends in 2009, The Detroit News reported.

Chrysler has also cancelled plans to build the flashy Imperial luxury-car concept. Instead, the resurgence of Chrysler's lineup will depend on the success of restyled versions of successful models such as the 300C sedan and Ram pickup, as well as all-new products, such as the Dodge Challenger muscle car and a crossover vehicle slated for production in Mexico, the story said.

Aussie police get Jeep Wrangler CRD

In Australia, the Victoria Police have acquired a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport powered by the available 2.8L CRD. The off-roader is essentially a special-use vehicle that will be used around Melbourne and other venues to help promote a snow safety campaign during the ski season. (Remember folks, it's winter down there now.) Now, after a long day of promoting snow safety to the masses, we wonder if the fuzz can suppress the urge to use the Jeep for some winter-weather hooning when no one's looking. You know, as research on what not to do.

Get Gephardt: Car Company Won't Return Overpayment

If you make regular monthly payments to any company, be careful never to accidentally make an overpayment.

When a Salt Lake City woman accidentally overpaid $1,600, and couldn’t get her money back, it was time to Get Gephardt.

An overpayment of $10 or $20 bucks to some company might not be a big deal: just subtract it from next month’s payments.

But $1,600 over? That might make it difficult to pay some other bills.

Let’s see if we can figure out why this company won’t return money that isn’t theirs.

Chrissy Wingeier leases this Chrysler through ‘Chrysler Financial Services.’

Back in march, late fees were looming after some confusion as to whom she was needed to pay on her lease.

So, to be safe, Chrissy wrote multiple checks.

She wound up overpaying on her lease $1,600 and she needed that money back.

Chrissy says that she called Chrysler Financial, and they told her she could not get a refund until her lease matured in 2009. And one spokesperson told us that is Chrysler financials policy.

“We were just holding it due to the access wear and tear and/or mileage that may have occurred.”

“We want the money back now,” says Chrissy. “It’s our overpayment. Why should they hold onto that payment for 3 years?”

“The law is not clear,” says Commerce Department Director Francine Giani. She says law or now law, a large overpayment ought to result in a refund.

“This was an error. I don’t see why that group would not give her that money back,” says Giani.

And that’s just what happened.

After our call, Chrissy got this check for $2,200 from Chrysler Financial.

$2,200 dollars? She thought she only over paid by $1,600.

Here’s the deal, Chrissy. Don’t spend all of that $2,200.

Because while Chrysler Financial may not have wanted to refund your overpayment, I’ll bet you’ll have to pay them back right away if they accidentally overpaid you.

New Chrysler, new logo: say hello (again) to the pentastar

PM info is confirmed: Return of the Pentastar
-------------------------------

Posted Aug 5th 2007 7:04PM by John Neff

We knew Chrysler would be returning to its well known pentastar logo after the sale of itself from DaimlerChrysler to Cerberus Capital Management went through, and that day was last Friday. Soon after we got a tip from a reader pointing us to a new website promoting "The New Chrysler", as well as its new look pentastar logo.

Big things are happening at Chrysler, obviously, including the sale, name change to Chrysler LLC, and the announcement of the automaker's new, industry-leading lifetime powertrain warranty. The new website touts all these things and tells us to "Get Ready for the Next Hundred Years". If you're interested in a breakdown of Chrysler's relationship with Cerberus, it's got that too.

Thanks for the tip, Tool!
